What are some of the signs that you have an infection?

Common signs that you might have a sexually transmitted infection:

  1. Itching around the vagina and/or discharge from the vagina for women
  2. Discharge from the penis for men
  3. Pain during sex, when urinating and/or in the pelvic area
  4. Sore throats in people who have oral sex
  5. Pain in the anus for people who have anal sex
  6. Chancre sores (painless red sores) on the genital area, anus, tongue and/or throat
  7. Dark urine, loose, light-colored stools, and yellow eyes and skin
  8. Small blisters that turn into scabs on the genital area
  9. Swollen glands, fever and body aches
  10. Unusual infections, unexplained fatigue, night sweats and weight loss
  11. Soft, flesh-colored warts or bumps around the genital area

More commonly, sexually transmitted infections are asymptomatic, which means there are no symptoms. Because it is possible to have an infection and not have symptoms, regular STD screening is recommended.
